Guest & Patient Access

Overview

Patients and guests never need to create a MediMic account. They join sessions via a secure invite link or session code — directly in their smartphone's browser with no app installation required.

"Guest" in MediMic refers to any user who accesses the platform without a signed-in Provider account. This includes:

  • Patients joining a Two-Device session via invite link
  • Providers trying MediMic without a paid subscription (trial / free tier)

Patient Experience (Two-Device Mode)

  1. Receive the invite link from your provider (via SMS, email, WhatsApp, etc.).
  2. Tap the link — it opens in your smartphone's browser.
  3. Enter your display name (first name is fine).
  4. Select your preferred language from the dropdown.
  5. Tap Join Session.
  6. Grant microphone permission when prompted.
  7. The translation interface opens — you're connected.

No account. No app download. No sign-up.

Joining via Session Code

  1. Open your browser and go to portal.medimic.ai/join.
  2. Enter the session code your provider gave you verbally or in writing.
  3. Enter your display name and language.
  4. Tap Join.

During the Session

  • Tap and hold Hold to Speak to say something. Release when done.
  • Your provider's speech appears as translated text and can be played as audio.
  • The interface is designed for one-handed use on a smartphone.

After the Session

When the provider ends the session, you will see a "Session ended" message. You can close the browser tab. No data is stored on your device after the session ends.

Guest Provider Access (Free Trial)

Healthcare providers can try MediMic.Ai without a subscription. Guest providers can:

  • Create sessions (Shared Device and Two-Device modes)
  • Use all translation features
  • Access a limited number of free sessions

Guest Session Limits

Guest (unauthenticated) providers have a session cap to prevent misuse. Once the cap is reached:

  • A prompt appears directing to portal.medimic.ai to sign up or upgrade.
  • The device ID is retained so that usage history is preserved if the provider later creates an account.

Upgrading from Guest to Provider Account

  1. Go to portal.medimic.ai and tap Sign Up.
  2. Complete registration.
  3. Sign in on the same device — your session history will be linked to your new account.

How Guest Devices Are Identified

MediMic generates a unique device ID for each device on first use. This ID:

  • Is stored in the device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore)
  • Persists across app updates
  • Is tied to the device, not the user's identity

If the app is uninstalled and reinstalled, the device ID is recovered from secure storage so that existing usage counts are not reset. This is an intentional anti-abuse measure: reinstalling the app does not grant a fresh guest quota.

On iOS, the Keychain entry survives app reinstalls by default. On Android, the Keystore entry also persists across reinstalls because it is bound to the app's signing certificate rather than the app installation itself.

Patient Privacy

  • Patients are identified only by the display name they enter when joining.
  • No email address, phone number, or account is required.
  • All conversation content is end-to-end encrypted — only the devices in the session can read the content.
  • Patients' translated speech is never stored in a form readable by MediMic servers.
  • Session data is automatically purged according to the provider's organization's data retention policy.

See Privacy Policy and Security Overview for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions — Patients

Do I need to install the MediMic app? No. Patients join via a browser link. No installation required.

Is it safe to use on my phone's browser? Yes. The session is encrypted end-to-end. Even if someone intercepted the network traffic, they would see only encrypted ciphertext.

Will the conversation be recorded? An encrypted transcript is retained by your healthcare provider for clinical documentation purposes, consistent with standard medical record-keeping requirements. No audio recording is stored.

What happens to my data after the session? Your display name and translated text are retained in encrypted form as part of the session transcript. Your microphone audio is processed in real time and not stored. See the provider's privacy notice for their data retention policy.

I tapped the link but it says "Invite expired." Invite links are valid for 2 hours. Ask your provider to send a new invite.

I see "Invalid or missing session key." The link may have been modified by your messaging app (some apps strip URL fragments). Ask your provider to resend the link, or enter the session code manually at portal.medimic.ai/join.
